New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins had another roster move to announce today, as 22-year-old righthanded pitcher Alex Burnett has been restored to the active roster in New Britain following a seven-day stint on the disabled list with a hand injury.

Prior to his shelving, Burnett had been one of the most reliable members of manager Tom Nieto's bullpen. He'll look to resume that role tonight at New Britain Stadium as the Rock Cats take on the Erie SeaWolves (Double-A Detroit Tigers) in the opening contest of a six-game homestand. It was against these SeaWolves a week ago when Burnett was hurt.

The Westminister, CA native has pitched to a stellar 1.86 ERA in 29 appearances since his June 3 call-up from the Twins' Advanced Single-A club in Fort Myers, where he also excelled. Eastern League hitters have managed a meager .180 batting average against Burnett, with the 6-foot/209-pounder racking up 32 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work in his current digs.

Today's move figures to be a crucial one as the Rock Cats continue their late-season push for a berth in the EL playoffs - which would spell their first postseason appearance since 2003. Just 17 home games remain on the schedule for the 2009 campaign and there's sure to be plenty of excitement on tap at New Britain Stadium with a potential playoff spot looming for the Rock Cats.
