Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - After 15-straight losses, the Richmond Flying Squirrels came in to Curve, Pa. and halted the surging Curve, 5-1, on Monday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Max Moroff was 1-for-3 to run his on-base streak to 20 games and now has hits in 13-of-his-last-14 games. Starter Zack Dodson (1-1) pitched five scoreless innings before allowing his first run of the season in the sixth to end his scoreless innings streak at 23.1 innings.

Richmond scored the first run of the game in the sixth off Dodson when Kelby Tomlinson doubled home pitcher Kelvin Marte (1-0). Altoona answered immediately though in the bottom of the inning when Gift Ngoepe doubles and moved to third on a bad throw in from left by Daniel Carbonell. Dodson then helped his own cause with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.

The Squirrels, though, had the last laugh as Myles Schroder ended up hitting a three-run homer in the seventh off Dodson to go up, 4-1. They'd add another in the eighth off reliever Tyler Sample to extend the frame.

On the night, the Curve were held to just four hits and one run, tying season-lows for the season.

Since it was a Guaranteed Win Monday and the Curve did not win, fans who were at Monday night's loss to Richmond can bring their ticket stub back to another Monday Curve home game and get another ticket for free (based upon availability, of equal or lesser value).

The Curve (15-7) will aim to rebound at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they meet the Squirrels (4-17) in the second game of the series. It's a Two-for-Tuesday at the ballpark presented by Atlantic Broadband with 2-for-1 offers on tickets, hot dogs and small popcorns. In addition to the traditional specials, we'll also have specials on hard shell tacos for $2 as well as 24oz. Dos Equis for $5.

RHP Chad Kuhl (2-0) will start for the Curve while the Squirrels send RHP Chris Stratton (0-3, 5.31) to the hill. Gates open at 5 p.m. while airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
