New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats defeated the Harrisburg Senators by the score of 4-2 on Monday evening at New Britain Stadium.
Rock Cats starter LHP Yohan Flande improved his record to 4-0 in 2015 as the Rock Cats won their fourth straight game. The southpaw has now lowered his ERA to 1.77 through five starts.
Harrisburg drew first blood in the top of the fifth after LF Rick Hague led off with a base hit and moved to third on back-to-back sacrifice bunts. 2B Tony Renda collected the RBI when his 6-3 groundout sent Hague across the plate and made it a 1-0 game.
The Rock Cats answered back with four of their own in the bottom of the sixth. C Tom Murphy cracked a base hit between third and short to score SS Trevor Story, who doubled earlier in the inning. After CF David Dahl's single loaded the bases, 1B Will Swanner showed great patience by drawing the free pass from Senators' starter RHP Austin Voth, giving New Britain the 2-1 lead. 3B Jayson Langfels gave the home team a boost with a two-run double, scoring both Murphy and Dahl, increasing the Rock Cats' lead to three.
The visitors took one back in the top of the eighth on a double from SS Wilmer Difo, who finished the night with three hits.
Flande started the game in very impressive fashion, striking out the first four Senators to come up to the plate and six of the first eleven batters of the game. The lefthander worked six innings, scattering six hits while walking one and striking out six. Relievers Kraig Sitton, Jason Gurka and Austin House combined for three innings of relief with Sitton and Gurka earning the hold and House converted on his league-best ninth save.
Voth left the game after 5 1/3 innings pitched. New Britain reached him for four runs, two earned, and the righthander walked two while striking out five. He falls to 2-2 on the season.
Tuesday evening's 6:35 contest marks the second of the three game series. New Britain will send RHP Matt Flemer to the hill and the Senators are still TDB.
