Senators Lose Series Opener in New Britain
May 4, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
A rough sixth inning was more than the Harrisburg Senators could overcome in a 4-2 loss to the New Britain Rock Cats on Monday night at New Britain Stadium.
Senators starting pitcher Austin Voth started his outing with five scoreless innings and struck out the first batter of the sixth. However, Voth allowed a double which was followed by a Senators error. New Britain then singled in a run off Voth to tie the game at 1-1. Another defensive miscue led to an infield single to load the bases and end Voth's outing. Reliever Derek Self began his outing by walking in a run and then allowing a two-run double that extended New Britain's lead to 4-1. Voth was charged with all four runs, but only two were earned. Self finished with 1.2 scoreless innings in which he allowed a hit, a walk, but allowed all three inherited runners to score. Paul Demny followed with a perfect eighth inning.
Harrisburg initially took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Ricky Hague scored on a Tony Renda RBI groundout. Hague led the inning off with a single, moved to second and third on a pair of sacrifice bunts before Renda's grounder. In the top of eighth inning, Mario Lisson and Wilmer Difo both doubled to cut New Britain's lead to 4-2. Lisson's double was his fourth, and for Difo it was his third. Difo had three hits in the game for the first time as a Senator. Pedro Severino also two hits for Harrisburg, lifting his season average to .317. Matt Skole had a double in two at-bats after entering as a defensive replacement.
Overall, the Senators had 10 hits. However, Harrisburg went 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.
The Senators will send lefty Richard Bleier to the hill Tuesday evening in game two of the series against New Britain's Matt Flemer. The game is slated to begin at 6:35 p.m. and can be heard starting with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
