Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - The Altoona Curve won a back and forth ballgame that featured three ties and five lead changes in a 5-4 win over Reading Wednesday at Blair County Ballpark.
Reading struck first in the third inning when starting pitcher Joe Savery doubled to get things going then scored when Quintin Berry doubled to left field.
The Curve would get on the board in the fourth manufacturing two runs after Jose Tabata doubled to get himself and Jim Negrych into scoring position. Negrych would score on a ground out and Tabata on a sacrifice fly to give the Curve their first lead of the ballgame.
The lead would not last for long though as Reading came right back in the fifth inning to plate two on a Berry double to put Reading ahead, 3-2.
Altoona would even the game at 3 in their half of the fifth when Jonel Pacheco came off the bench and blasted a pinch-hit, solo home run deep down the left field line, it was Pacheco's third long ball of the season the most of any Curve player this season.
The Phillies would retake the lead in the six on an unearned run that would score on a fielder's choice.
Again it would not take long for the Curve to respond as Jamie Romak smacked an RBI double to the gap in right center to pull the Curve even 4-4 after six innings. Altoona would break the tie in the seventh when Negrych doubled home shortstop Anderson Machado. With the double Negrych extends his Curve best hitting streak to five games.
Curve starter Brad Lincoln (0-1) tossed five innings and allowed three runs on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Reliever Jeff Sues (1-1) picks up his first win of the season throwing two hitless innings.
