(Binghamton, NY)- Binghamton scored four unanswered runs, including the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and went on for a 4-3 win over Trenton on Wednesday night from NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, NY. Trenton finished its first road trip at 3-3.
With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Binghamton (7-4) scored a run to take a 4-3 lead. Binghamton Right Fielder Carl Loadenthal walked to start the inning against Trenton Reliever Kanekoa Texeira (1-1). He moved to second base on a ground out, and then stole third base. He scored on an RBI single by Binghamton Left fielder Josh Peterson. Loadenthal finished the game 2 x 3 with two runs, an RBI, a triple, and two stolen bases. Binghamton Reliever Edgar Alfonso (1-0) tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings in relief to pick up the win. Binghamton Reliever Roy Merritt pitched two shutout innings to close out the game for his Eastern League-leading sixth save.
Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez. He leads the team with eight RBI. The Thunder increased the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the fourth inning. Shortstop Eduardo Nunez and Second Baseman Reegie Corona had back-to-back two-out RBI singles. Binghamton rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and a run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Carl Loadenthal had an RBI triple to trim the Trenton lead to 3-1. Loadenthal then scored on a sacrifice fly RBI by Designated Hitter D.J. Wabick to make it 3-2. Binghamton tied the game at 3-3 on a fielder's choice RBI ground-out off the bat of Binghamton Shortstop Ruben Tejada.
Trenton Starting Pitcher George Kontos received a no-decision. He allowed only two hits and two runs over five innings. He struck out seven and walked four. Binghamton Starting Pitcher Dylan Owen yielded only three runs and five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He also received a no-decision. Corona and Trenton Catcher Francisco Cervelli each had two hits in the loss.
Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Thursday night to start a series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins). RHP Zach McAllister (0-0, 2.61) will start for Trenton against New Britain LHP Ryan Mullins (0-2, 3.86). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
