B-Mets Sweep Trenton with 4-3 Win

Binghamton scored four unanswered runs in the waning innings to overcome a 3-0 deficit and top Trenton 4-3. In his longest outing of the year, closer Roy Merritt shut down the Thunder bats in the final two innings to notch his league-leading sixth save.

B-Met starter Dylan Owen pitched three scoreless innings to open up the ballgame before running into trouble in the fourth inning. Reegie Corona opened the frame with a leadoff single and proceeded to move around to third on consecutive wild pitches. Edwar Gonzalez got Corona home on a sacrifice fly to center to get Trenton on the board 1-0.

In the fifth, the Thunder added two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Eduardo Nunez and Reegie Corona putting Trenton (6-5) out to a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Binghamton (7-4) answered the two-run frame of the Thunder with two of their own. Ruben Tejada opened up the frame with a leadoff walk against Trenton starter George Kontos, who walked a season-high four in the game. With one out, Carl Loadenthal tripled down the first base line to bring in Tejada. Following Loadenthal up, D.J. Wabick hit a sacrifice fly to center to score him making it 3-2.

In the sixth, the B-Mets used two walks by reliever Kanekoa Texeira to put runners at the corners with one out. With Ruben Tejada at the plate, Texeira looked to induce an inning-ending double play, but the return throw from Reegie Corona to first was in the dirt and got away from Kevin Smith, allowing the runner at third, Lucas Duda, to score. This tied the game at three a piece.

Finally, the B-Met completed their rally to win with a run scoring on Josh Petersen's one-out single to right that scored Loadenthal, who had walked to start the inning, making it 4-3.

Owen went a season-high 5.2 innings giving up three runs and got a no-decision. Edgar Alfonzo made his first appearance of the season since being transferred to the B-Mets roster on Tuesday and got the win going 1.1 innings scoreless.

Binghamton begins a seven-game road trip tomorrow at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. RHP Jose Sanchez (0-1, 12.00) will make the start for the B-Mets and will be opposed by LHP Marc Rzepczynski (2-1, 5.14) of New Hampshire. The game is slated for a 6:35 first pitch and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
