Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - In a tie ballgame in the ninth with the bases loaded, the Harrisburg Senators score the game winning run on an RBI groundout to take the first game of the series against the Altoona Curve by the score of 3-2 at Metro Bank Park.
In the bottom of the ninth, Noah Krol came on for the Curve and walked the first batter Derek Norris before a bunt and an intentional walk to put two on with one down. Another walk from Krol loaded the bases for Jesus Valdez who grounded the ball in the infield, scoring a runner from third to win the game. On the play Farrell bobbled the ball, threw to second, the runner was ruled safe on a very close play, and the ball was relayed to first for an out.
The Curve got on the board first in the second inning through a solo home run off the bat of Jeremy Farrell, his third of the season. However, that lead was short-lived as the Senators got a solo home run of their own in the bottom half of the second off the bat of Tim Pahuta to tie the game at one.
The Curve though re-gained the lead and it was again Farrell who produced the run. In the fourth, after a single by Quincy Latimore, Farrell hit a hard line drive to center for an RBI double and a 2-1 Curve lead.
In his third start of the season, Mike Colla threw well for Altoona as he goes five strong, allowing only three hits and one run. He also tied his season high with five strikeouts.
Erik Arnesen also pitched well for the Senators as he went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and exiting with two on in the sixth. Reliever Jimmy Barthmaier got out of that jam with a double play.
In the sixth inning, the Curve summoned Tim Alderson from the bullpen and he worked an easy inning with two strikeouts. In the seventh, the Curve brought in Chris Leroux, and Pahuta hit his second home run of the game, another solo shot off Leroux to tie the game at two.
With the loss, the Curve drop to a game below .500 at 14-15 and go to 1-3 on this six-game road trip.
The Curve (14-15) will continue their series with Harrisburg (15-15) on Tuesday as in game two RHP Aaron Pribanic (3-0, 1.86) looks to stay unbeaten for Altoona and he will be opposed by RHP Shairon Martis (0-1, 4.73). Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg, Pa. with pregame coverage on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network will begin at 6:30 p.m.
