New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Manchester, NH)-Moises Sierra delivered a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning for the second straight game, this time giving the Fisher Cats a 1-0 win over Portland on Monday night.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Anthony Gose led off with a single, moved to second on a single by Adeiny Hechavarria. Gose stole third and Hechavarria took second on a defensive indifference. Portland then intentionally walked Darin Mastroianni. Mike McDade struck out, but Sierra (2-for-4, RBI) came through with the winning single. It was Sierra's third walk off hit at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium this season, and his second in two days. Sierra singled in the ninth inning of Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader to give New Hampshire a 2-1 win over Binghamton.
A crowd of 6,082, the largest of the season so far, took in the first meeting of 2011 between New Hampshire and the Sea Dogs (Red Sox Double-A). They witnessed a pitchers' duel between Chad Beck of the Fisher Cats and Stolmy Pimentel of the Sea Dogs.
Beck ran trouble in the top of the second inning, walking Chih-Hsien Chiang and Oscar Tejeda. Jorge Padron singled to load the bases with one out. Beck then struck out Jonathan Hee and retired Che-Hsuan Lin on a come-backer.
The Sea Dogs (10-18) also failed to score in the sixth inning. Ryan Lavarnway singled, but was gunned down trying to score from first on a double by Will Midlebrooks (2-for-4).
For the Fisher Cats (18-11), Beck worked seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits, walking three and striking out four. After issuing a lead-off walk, Clint Everts struck out the side in the eighth inning. Mike Hinckley (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth for the win.
Portland starter Pimentel blanked the Fisher Cats on three hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out seven in his best start of the season. Seth Garrison worked two scoreless innings before the Fisher Cats put together the winning rally against Eammon Portice, now 0-1.
The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs meet again on Tuesday evening at 6:35pm. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
