Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Daniel Moskos had his season long start as well as a season high in strikeouts, but the Curve allowed five unanswered runs from the seventh inning on in a 6-3 loss to the Bowie Baysox Friday night at Blair County Ballpark.
Moskos had his season long start of 7.1 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and season best seven strikeouts, but did not factor into the decision.
Bowie got out to an early 1-0 lead when Miguel Abreu doubled and then scored on a fielder's choice in the second inning. Altoona answered with three runs in the third inning starting with a Gorkys Hernandez RBI single followed by two straight wild pitches to plate Hernandez and Brian Friday.
Bowie then scored five consecutive runs from the seventh to ninth inning. Eric Crozier and Abreu each had RBI singles during that stretch. Those two combined to go 5-for-8 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Baysox.
Hernandez finished the night 2-for-5 with an RBI as one of four Curve players to have multi-hit nights, the other three were Brian Friday (2-for-4), Jose Tabata (2-for-3), and Jim Negrych (2-for-4). All 10 Curve hits on the night were singles Friday night.
Top prospect Pedro Alvarez's home debut was a sour one as the Curve slugger went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.
Altoona (26-47) will look to rebound Saturday in a double-header against the Baysox (39-33) starting at 5:05 p.m. at Blair County Ballpark. Game one probable starters are RHP Tyler Herron (0-0, 0.00) in his first start of the season and lefty Brain Matusz (1-0, 0.00) for Bowie. Radio coverage begins at 4:35 p.m. for the double-header on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
Saturday's contest also welcomes and exciting new entertainer to Blair County Ballpark as Mad Chad and his chainsaw juggling act will be performing between innings during game two of the twinbill.
