Cox Placed on the Disabled List

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP J.B Cox has been placed on the Disabled List. RHP Eric Wordekemper has been activated from the Disabled List.

Cox is 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA in five games for Trenton. He was transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Trenton on June 12th. He made 12 appearances (one start) for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) and was 0-1 with a 7.08 ERA and one save. In 2008, the right-hander appeared in five games for Trenton and went 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA. He spent most of the season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and was 5-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 28 games. He spent the 2007 season on the disabled list after having right elbow surgery. In 2006, The Bay City, Texas native made 41 appearances for the Thunder and had a 6-2 record and a 1.75 ERA with three saves. Cox was drafted in the second round of the 2005 Draft out of the University of Texas.

Wordekemper has also split time between Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. In his two combined stints with the Thunder, the 6-foot-1 right-hander has appeared in 10 games and has a 0-0 record with a 2.79 ERA and one save. With Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Storm Lake, Iowa native appeared in six games and went 1-0 with an 8.10 ERA and one save. He was originally drafted by the Yankees out of Creighton University in the 46th round of the 2005 draft.

Trenton starts a four-game series tonight against the Reading Phillies (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies). RHP Zach McAllister (5-3, 1.81) will start for Trenton against Reading LHP Joe Savery (9-1, 3.24).
