Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, OH - The Altoona Curve continue to roll as the Eastern League's best team was able to extend their winning streak to games with a victory on Tuesday night at Canal Park winning 5-3 over the Akron Aeros (AA - Cleveland Indians).
The win pushes the Curve record to 29-16, which places them 13 game over .500 for the first time since September 2006.
Tuesday's win was highlighted by another solid performance on the mound. Lefty Rudy Owens secured his first win since May 4 with a season-high 7.0 innings. The reigning Pitcher of the Year in the Pirates organization allowed just two runs - one earned - while scattering two hits.
Offensively Altoona would take a lead they would never relinquish in the top of the third inning. Hector Gimenez blasted his team-leading fifth homer of the season - a two-run shot to put the Curve up 2-0.
After Akron would cut the Curve lead in half with an RBI groundout in their half of the frame, Altoona immediately responded with another pair of runs. Miles Durham knocked in Josh Harrison and Matt Hague - both of whom singled to lead off the inning to grab a 4-1 edge.
Akron (18-27) would again respond with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Owens would balk home a run, which made it a 4-2 Curve lead.
Altoona would plate one final run in the fifth inning when Hague (2-for-4) would bring home Chase d'Arnaud, who doubled to lead off the inning and finished the night 3-for-4.
The Aeros scored their final run off of Ronald Uviedo in the eighth to draw their deficient to two, but Daniel Moskos tossed a perfect ninth inning to notch his 11th save of the season.
Altoona will look to continue their quest for most consecutive wins in franchise history - which is 10 straight, accomplished during the 2005 season - on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Bryan Morris (1-0, 1.69) will make his second Double-A start for the Curve while Akron will counter with lefty Kelvin De La Cruz (1-2, 5.40).
Airtime on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network stations is 6:35 p.m.
