SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers halted a late Schaumburg rally at Boomers Stadium on Tuesday night, as the Crushers defeated the Boomers for the first time this season, in a 3-2 thriller.

The win for the Crushers (28-25) was their third of their current road trip, and improves their road record to 16-10, while the loss for the Boomers (33-20) snapped their four game winning streak.

All of the scoring was done in the first four innings of the contest, while both teams spoiled chances to score in the second half of the game.

The Boomers struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Karexon Sanchez started the inning with a triple down the right field line, and scored on Frank Pfister's groundout.

The Crushers answered in the top of the inning. Daniel Bowman started the inning with a base hit. J.C. Figueroa then hit a ground ball to Steve McQuail at first. McQuail's throw to second pulled Sanchez off the bag, and the errant throw cost the Boomers an out. Wally Correa walked to load the bases, and Adrian Ortiz brought Bowman home on a sacrifice fly.

The Crushers struck for two more in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back. The bottom of the order started the inning with three consecutive singles, as Figueroa, Brian Erie and Correa stroked back-to-back-to-back base hits. Ortiz reached on a fielder's choice, which brought Figueroa in, and Robby Kuzdale's sacrifice fly plated Erie.

Schaumburg cut into the Lake Erie lead in the home half of the fourth. Chad Mozingo reached on an infield single, and stole second base. Mozingo moved to third on Nate Baumann's base hit, and scored on J.B. Brown's groundout.

The Boomers left 11 on base throughout the night, and left them loaded in the ninth inning. Ty Nelson started the inning with a base hit, and made his way to third on Jereme Milons's double to the gap in left center. With two on, and nobody out, Jonathan Kountis (12) worked his magic and got out of the jam.

Following the double from Milons, Sanchez was retired on a fly ball out to right field, and Kountis struck out Sean Mahley, before walking Pfister to load the bases. Kountis worked into a full count on cleanup hitter Steve McQuail, before retiring him on a fly out to left.

Brad Duffy (1-0) scored the victory for the Crushers, after tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Duffy, Kountis, and Mickey Jannis combined to toss five scoreless innings of relief. Pat Arnold started the contest, and allowed just two runs on four hits over four innings. Cody Griebling (0-1) took the loss in his pro debut, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings.

Seven Crushers hit safely in the contest, for the second consecutive night. Jason Taylor and Wally Correa both hit safely twice. Taylor is hitting .500 (7-for-14) on the trip, with six runs scored, six RBI and seven walks.

The Crushers will finish their three game series with the Schaumburg Boomers in Schaumburg, Ill., on Wednesday afternoon. Right hander Trevor Longfellow (5-2, 3.83) will start for the Crushers, and the Boomers will counter with right hander Shane Prance (1-0, 4.91). The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
