Joliet Slammers News Release
(Joliet, IL)- Tuesday night's game at Silver Cross Field was a hitting clinic, as the Gateway Grizzlies hammered their way to a 9-5 victory over Joliet, going for 16 hits against Joliet pitching.
Both teams scored a run in the first. Gateway struck early on a Rogelio Noris RBI double, and Kyle Maunus tied it for the Slammers on a single in the home half.
Gateway put three across in the third, led off by a solo home run from Antone DeJesus, followed up by a two-run single from Vladamir Frias, making it 4-1. Joliet put the game within one in their at-bat when Abel Nieves bombed a two-run homer. But the Grizzlies broke the game open in the fourth on a bases-clearing double by Noris putting the tally at 7-3, and added another later in the inning on a John Shelby single.
Joliet tacked on another pair in the fourth when Brad Netzel brought around Josh Lyon and David Fox to make it 8-5. Gateway notched another in the ninth to give the game its final score.
Michael Perconte struggled in the start and took the loss for Joliet, while Justin Albert, Chase Doremus, and Dustin Quattrocchi finished the effort.
The Slammers continue their six-game stint at Silver Cross Field Wednesday against the Gateway Grizzlies. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
