Patton and Sanders Carry Rascals to 10-4 Win
July 17, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
Loves Park, Ill. - Doug Sanders tied a single-game franchise record with five hits, including two doubles, the first of which came with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning that gave the Rascals a 3-1 lead before Jason Patton put the game away in the eighth with a three-run homer to right.
River City (28-25) stranded two runners on in the first and Rockford (22-30) turned that momentum into a 1-0 lead before the Sanders double and a Patton single gave the Rascals a 4-1 lead in the second.
Rascal starter Tony Marsala (3-4) pitched into and out of trouble all night, allowing just two runs in 6 1/3 innings on nine hits, four walks, and six strikeouts to pick up the win against his former team.
The Rascals scored an unearned run in the third that Rockford answered in the bottom of the frame but River City got a run right back in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Charlie Lisk to make it 6-2. The RiverHawks made it 6-3 in the seventh before Patton's sixth homerun that was followed by a Jeremy Synan RBI single to put the scored at 10-3.
Rockford plated a run in the ninth off Aaron King in the ninth as the Rascals improved to 21-4 when hitting a homerun and 22-0 when leading after five innings.
River City looks to take the series tomorrow with first pitch set for 12:05. Catch day-game action on Westplex News-Talk 1280 AM or online at www.westplexnewstalk.com.
