Crunch Suffer OT Loss to Comets

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch lost 2-1 in a hard-fought overtime battle against the Utica Comets in front of a sold out crowd tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Comets forward Brandon DeFazio scored 4:02 into overtime to drop the Crunch's overall record to 18-23-4-5. The Comets now hold a 2-0-0-1 lead over the Crunch in the Galaxy Cup.

Comets goaltender Joacim Eriksson stopped 25 of 26 shots faced. Syracuse Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins blocked 34 of 36 shots. The Crunch failed to convert three power-play opportunities while the penalty kill unit stopped one of two Comet power plays.

Syracuse Crunch left winger P.C. Labrie gave the Crunch the lead at the 18:28 mark of the first period. Labrie shot from the left wing on a pass from forward Phil Paradis, putting the puck past Eriksson. Crunch captain Mike Angelidis was credited with the secondary assist.

The Comets tied up the score 12:30 into the second period. Right wing Nicklas Jensen scored on a Comets power play, assisted by center Cal O'Reilly. Center Pascal Pelletier earned a point with the second assist.

The score remained tied at 1-1 throughout the third period, taking the game into overtime. DeFazio's game-winning goal was assisted b Cal O'Reilly and Patrick Mullen.

The Crunch hit the road to face the Hershey Bears in back-to-back contests this Saturday and Sunday games. Saturday's game will be held at the Giant Center while Sunday's tilt takes place at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.
