February 21, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Brad Hunt scored two goals and Mark Arcobello collected two assists as the Oklahoma City Barons extended their unbeaten streak to eight games in a 4-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday at Van Andel Arena.
With seven wins and a shootout loss in their last eight, the Barons have set a club record unbeaten run, bettering the previous mark of seven set two years ago. They've also won five straight road games, matching a club high, and are over .500 for the first time this season at 23-22-1-6.
Richard Bachman earned his 15th win (15-12-2) with 23 saves on 25 shots. He's been in net throughout the last eight games. Tom McCollum dropped to 19-10-2 by stopping 24 of 28 shots as the Griffins fall to 30-17-2-3.
The Barons out-shot the Griffins 13-8 in the first period, yet trailed 1-0 after one. Calle Jarnkrok snapped home a shot on the power play from just inside the right-wing circle at 16:37 to snap the Griffins' 0-for-17 drought on the man advantage.
Oklahoma City scored four of the next five goals. Hunt tallied his first of the night on the power play rush at 3:26 of the second on assists from Arcobello and Bachman. Oscar Klefbom gave the Barons a 2-1 lead at 11:02 with a blast from the top of the circle for his first North American professional goal, assisted by Austin Fyten and Matt Ford.
Grand Rapids countered with a goal on a 2-on-1 by David MacIntyre at 11:44. The Barons took the lead for good on the man advantage at 17:41, as Hunt fired a point shot home on help from Roman Horak and Arcobello.
Horak added an insurance goal at 2:17 of the third on a setup from back of the net by Steve Pinizzotto. The teams meet again on Saturday at 6 pm CST at Van Andel Arena. These are the first matchups of the year between the clubs that played in the Western Conference Finals last season, with the Griffins winning 4-3 on the way to a Calder Cup title.
