Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch rallied past the Rochester Americans, 5-1, tonight at Blue Cross Arena.
After giving up the first goal, the Crunch potted five straight from Gabriel Dumont, Ryan Jones, Gabe Fortier, Gage Goncalves and Simon Ryfors to defeat the Amerks. Syracuse advances to 9-8-2-2 on the season and 2-3-0-0 in the 12-game season series against Rochester.
Goaltender Max Lagace turned aside 9-of-10 shots between the pipes for the Crunch before being relieved by Hugo Alnefelt to start the second period. Alnefelt went on to stop all 14 shots he faced. Amerks netminder Malcolm Subban stopped 23-of-27.
The Crunch were unable to convert on their lone power play opportunity, but went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Amerks were first on the board 12:33 into the first period. Jeremy Davies wrapped around the back of the net and centered the puck for Brett Murray to redirect in. Five minutes later, the Crunch tied the game off a similar play. Gemel Smith sent the puck towards the crease for Dumont to score.
Syracuse took the lead at the 14:43 mark of the middle frame when Ilya Usau set up Jones for a wrist shot from the top of the left circle.
The Crunch continued scoring with three goals in the third period. At 7:56, Fortier was down low to tip in Darren Raddysh's right point shot. Two minutes later, it was Goncalves who got a stick on Raddysh's shot from the blue line. With 28 seconds remaining in the game, Ryfors added an empty-net goal to top off a decisive victory.
The Crunch return home to host the Toronto Marlies on Friday.
