Crosby Silences Senators in 2-1 Win

The SeaWolves, backed by a spectacular staring pitching performance by Casey Crosby, avoided a ninth-inning scare to take down the Harrisburg Senators 2-1 on Friday night at Metro Bank Park

The SeaWolves broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh against lefty Oliver Perez. Rawley Bishop led off and walked and moved into scoring position on a Bryan Holaday sacrifice bunt. Bishop moved to third on a Deik Scram fly out and scored on a Shawn Roof infield single for a 1-0 'Wolves lead.

Erie added to the lead in the eighth. Brandon Douglas led off with his second of two hits with a base knock to right. Justin Henry laid down a sacrifice bunt and on an errant throw, Henry reached safely and Douglas moved to third. Audy Ciriaco lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Douglas for a 2-0 'Wolves edge.

The Senators threatened in the bottom of the ninth against reliever Tyler Stohr. Tyler Moore led off the inning with a solo home run to left, his 27th, making it a 2-1 game. After retiring the next two on strikeouts, Stohr surrendered a single to Tim Pahuta and he walked Stephen King putting the winning run on base. Stohr was lifted in favor of Austin Wood. Wood walked Josh Johnson, loading the bases for the top of the lineup. Wood struck out Erik Komatsu to end the game, preserving the Erie win, earning his fifth save.

Crosby (8-5) earned the win tossing eight shutout innings for his longest outing of the season. For the first time this season Crosby did not issue a walk and he struck out seven which is one-shy of equaling a season-high. Crosby improved to 2-0 in four August starts.

The SeaWolves and Senators meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park.7:00 First Pitch. Righty Luis Marte (1-0, 2.23 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Erik Arnesen (8-3, 2.36 ERA).
