Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa - Starting pitcher Jason Creasy improved to 7-0 as the Altoona Curve held off the Erie SeaWolves, 4-3, on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. All nine Curve starters hit safely as the Eastern League's leading offense totaled 14 hits in the win.
The Curve (32-20) improved to 7-0 against the SeaWolves (18-33) this season and won their fourth straight game overall.
Creasy (Win, 7-0) allowed both of his two runs in the first inning and four hits total, none after the third frame. His seven wins are tied for the most amongst E.L. pitchers.
Willy Garcia gave the Curve a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single, his fifth RBI over the last three games.
After falling behind in the bottom of the first, Altoona tied the game in the third when Max Moroff scored from third on a wild pitch by Erie starter Warwick Saupold (Loss, 1-3).
The game remained tied until the sixth inning when Jacob Stallings hit a sacrifice fly to put the Curve ahead, 3-2. Stallings now has a hit in each of his last eight games, raising his average on the year to .313.
The Curve added a run in the seventh when Adam Frazier scored on a fielder's choice and error by catcher Austin Green off the bat of Garcia.
The SeaWolves closed within a run after a solo home run by Jason Krizan in the eighth.
Erie had the potential game-tying run at third in the bottom of the ninth, but Harold Castro grounded into a game-ending 1-4-6-3 double play. The batted ball was deflected by pitcher Jhondaniel Medina (Save, 2) towards Moroff, who stopped it from his stomach and flipped to the shortstop Gift Ngoepe for an out at second base, and the return throw to first completed the double play.
Frazier finished the night 3-for-4 and scored twice. Garcia and Jose Osuna each had two hits.
The Curve and SeaWolves continue the four-game series on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Field. Lefty Zack Dodson (2-2, 2.63) will start for Altoona, with right-hander Chad Green (2-6, 4.84) on the mound for Erie. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
