June 5, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bryson Myles socked a go-ahead, solo homer in the sixth inning Friday night, and three Akron pitchers combined on a five-hitter, as the RubberDucks slipped by the New Britain Rock Cats, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.
Turning Point
With the score tied, 1-1, Myles drilled a towering homer to left-center with one out in the sixth off Cats starter Matt Flemer (1-2). It was Myles' second home run of the year.
Mound Presence
Will Roberts (4-2) put together a masterful start for the RubberDucks (26-27). He worked 6.1 innings, leaving after giving up a double with one out in the seventh. He allowed a run on four hits and struck out five. Roberts did not issue a walk, and has now gone five consecutive starts, covering 30.1 innings, without allowing a walk. Enosil Tejeda followed Roberts and turned in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, and right-hander Josh Martin sealed the win in the ninth for his second save.
Duck Tales
Myles was 2-4, and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He raised his season average to .300. Tyler Naquin had an infield hit in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Tony Wolters had a pair of hits, including a double, and also threw out his 31st runner of the year when he retired Tyler Massey on an attempted steal of third base in the seventh
