Cougars Win Streak Ends in 6-2 Loss to Giants

Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars saw their five-game win streak end, falling to the Vancouver Giants 6-2 on Wednesday at the CN Centre.

PostHudson Thornton had both Cougars goals in the loss, while Tyler Brennan was charged with the loss, making 17 saves.

Mazden Leslie for Vancouver started the scoring at the 16:43 mark of the opening period to get the Giants ahead. Shortly after the Leslie marker, Hudson Thornton wristed one by goaltender Brett Mirwald at 19:12 to get the game tied after the opening period.

In the second, Vancouver jumped back into the lead at 3:52 with Tyler Thorpe going top corner on Tyler Brennan. Minutes after the Giants goal, PG went to a power-play and converted. At 7:27, Thornton again fired a wrist shot by Mirwald to tie the game once again. Prince George had a five-minute power-play in the latter part of the frame but were unable to score. The game remained tied after two periods.

In the third, the Giants once again got back head. A point shot from Leslie at 2:30 redirected off the head of Cougar forward Cole Dubinsky and, in the net, to give the Giants a 3-2 lead. Vancouver didn't look back in the third, rattling off three more unanswered goals with Skyler Bruce, Mazden Leslie (Hat-Trick), and Julian Cull finding the back of the net.

-The Cougars remain 4th place in the Western Conference

-Hudson Thornton is 8 points shy of the Cougars single-season defenceman points record

-Riley Heidt is three assists shy of tying Jansen Harkins single season assists record
