Kane County Cougars News Release

Peoria, IL- The Kane County Cougars won their third consecutive game against the Peoria Chiefs and made it back-to-back extra-inning victories with a 3-2 final Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. Cliff Pennington scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning on a wild pitch when the Chiefs tried to walk Javier Herrera intentionally. Peoria got the first run of the game in the second against Cougars starter Ryan Ford. Drew Larsen made it 1-0 when Pennington misplayed a ball at shortstop to cause an unearned tally. Shut out through five innings, Kane County broke through in the sixth against Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada. Raul Padron singled, and Jose Pineda doubled to tie it 1-1 before getting gunned down trying to make it to third. Eddie Kim followed with a single and came all the way around from Ryan Ruiz's double to the corner in right for a 2-1 advantage. The Chiefs got even in the bottom half against Ford when Luis Montanez cracked a solo homer. Jared Trout relieved Ford, who worked seven innings and gave up only four hits. Trout induced a double-play grounder to erase a jam in the bottom of the ninth and force extra innings.

Pennington walked to start the 10th and went to third when Peoria reliever Tim Layden threw the ball away during a pickoff attempt. The Chiefs tried to walk Herrera, but Layden fired a wild pitch past his catcher, allowing Pennington to scamper home. Trout (3-4) got the win, and Layden (1-2) suffered the loss. Rob Semerano struck out the side in the last of the tenth for his ninth save. The final game of the four-game series is Thursday night at 7 CDT. The Cougars (8-6) send Ryan Webb (3-7, 4.39) to the mound for the sweep against Sean Gallagher (8-2, 1.55) for the Chiefs (6-8).
