Peoria, IL - The Kane County Cougars plated an unearned run in the top of the 10th inning Wednesday night at O'Brien Field to defeat the Peoria Chiefs, 3-2. The loss is the third in a row for the Chiefs against the Cougars.

Kane County shortstop Cliff Pennington led off the 10th inning with a walk against Chiefs reliever Tim Layden. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt by Layden allowed Pennington to move to third. One pitch later, a passed ball by Peoria catcher Oscar Bernard during an intentional walk allowed Pennington to score for a 3-2 lead. Kane County reliever Robert Semerano struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th to record his 9th save of the year.

The Chiefs scored in the bottom of the 2nd for a 1-0 lead after Drew Larsen started the inning with a double to right-center field. Bernard followed with a ground ball that was misplayed by Pennington, allowing Larsen to score from second.

Peoria held that 1-0 lead until the 6th inning when the Cougars scored twice. A one-out double from Jose Pineda scored Raul Padron from first to tie the game at 1-1. Pineda was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple. Three batters later, the Cougars got another run-scoring double, this time from Ryan Ruiz, and led 2-1.

Luis Montanez tied the game at 2-2 for the Chiefs with a solo home run onto the left field concourse in the bottom half of the 6th, his 12th shot of the season. Drew Larsen was hit by a pitch two batters later, but was forced out at second base one batter later to end the threat. Montanez lined a double down the left field line into the corner with two outs in the 8th inning, but a Jesse Schmidt strikeout stranded Montanez at second.

Chiefs starting pitcher Jesse Estrada scattered nine hits over six innings, allowing two runs and taking a no-decision. Kane County starter Ryan Ford also received a no-decision after giving up two runs over seven innings. Kane County reliever Jared Trout gave up just one hit in two innings of relief work to pick up the win to move his record 3-4. Pepsi Player of the Game
