Cougars Twirl 10th Shutout of Year

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (65-47, 30-13) tossed the team's 10th shutout of the year and Zack Shannon hit his 10th homer in a 3-0 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits (66-43, 23-20) on Monday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. It was the Cougars fourth win in a row and they've won seven of their last eight series.

In the bottom of the fourth, Zack Shannon broke up Brett Daniels' no-hit bid with a two-run homer to right field, putting the Cougars in front 2-0. The Cougars added on in the fifth. Keshawn Lynch reached on a fielder's choice, then Dominic Fletcher singled to put runners at the corners. With two outs, Fletcher attempted to steal second base, drawing a throw and allowing Lynch to scamper home from third, making it 3-0 Cougars.

Luis Frias (1-0) tossed six shutout innings for the Cougars on the mound. In his Midwest league debut, he struck out six, walked one and surrendered three hits. Chester Pimentel (8) earned the save with three innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts and one walk. Brett Daniels (5-6) suffered the loss with five innings of three-run baseball.
