South Bend, IN â The Kane County Cougars got a complete game three hit shutout from Trent Peterson in a 6 â 0 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks. The Cougars picked up five, two-out RBI's to win their 81st game of the season and evening the possible championship preview at one game apiece vs. the first half Eastern Division Champions.
The Cougars would get on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when Chris Tritle hit a two-out, two run single scoring Dan Putnam and Trevor Brown. Brown jarred the ball lose from Silver Hawk catcher Brian Rose in a big time collision at the plate giving the Cougars a 2 â 0 lead.
Kane County (81 â 52) would get another run in the top of the third inning when Vasili Spanos tripled with two outs. Brian Snyder brought him home on an infield single to push the lead to 3 â 0 .
The Cougars would pick up two more runs in the top of the fifth inning with another two-out two run single by Dan Putnam to take a 5 â 0 lead. Spanos and Snyder combined for another run in the top of the seventh when Snyder drove home Spanos from first with a double off the left field wall to make it a 6 â 0 game.
Cougars starting pitcher Trent Peterson picked up his eighth win on the year throwing a complete game three hit shutout. It was Peterson's best outing as a professional giving his team their first shutout since a July 26th win vs. Fort Wayne and the second nine inning complete game since Jared Trout's June 14th shutout of Lansing.
The Cougars and the Silver Hawks (73 â 61) will play game three of the four game set Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. game. Jared Trout will get the nod for the Cougars as Chris Kinsey will be on the mound for South Bend.
