South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN â During the head-to-head match-up between the South Bend Silver Hawks and the Kane County Cougars, the Silver Hawks outscored (27-16) and outplayed the Cougars. Tuesday night at The Cove, the Hawks were overmatched by starting pitcher Trent Peterson and the Kane County Cougars in a 6-0 loss.
Kane County scored early for the second straight game, plating two runs in the second and another in the third.
With one out in the second, Dan Putnam reached on a fielder's choice when Vasili Spanos, who doubled to open the inning and stole third base, was thrown out at the plate. The following batters Trevor Brown and Kory Wayment were walked, loading the bases. The next batter, Chris Tritle, who had not picked up a hit with the bases loaded this season, delivered a two run single to score Putnam and Brown, putting the Cougars on top 2-0.
The Western Division leaders added another run in the third. With two out, Vasili Spanos tripled to right center and came home on a run scoring single by Brian Snyder.
The Cougars added another pair in the fifth on an RBI single by Dan Putnam and another run scored when Jereme Milons had problems fielding the ball in left field.
The Silver Hawks continue their four game set with the Cougars Wednesday night. Wednesday night is Pepsi Workforce Wednesday presented by Pepsi, WAOR and WAAT-TV 69. Fans will be able to purchase Silver Hawks tickets at the Coveleski Stadium box office with a Pepsi-product proof of-purchase can buy a ticket and get one free as well as receive two bottomless cups of their favorite Pepsi beverage as one of the first 95 fans to enter the gates. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
