
Cougars lose to the Hawks, 3 - 2

South Bend, IN â The Kane County Cougars saw the winning run walk to the plate as the South Bend Silver Hawks won 3 â 2 Thursday night at Coveleski Stadium. The Cougars committed three errors on the night but a bases loaded walk proved to be the difference in the game.
The Cougars scored in their first at bat for the fourth straight game taking the early lead. Luke Appert came to the plate on an infield single from Vasili Spanos after a throwing error went past first base giving the Cougars a quick 1 â 0 lead.
The Hawks would tie the game with their first hit on the night as Alex Frazier hit a solo home run over the left-center field wall evening the game at 1 â 1.
The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Emilo Bonifacio reached on a fielders choice, stole second then as he was stealing third came home as the throw to third went into left field. The Cougars would tie the game in the top of the fifth when Luke Appert hit a one out triple and scored on a single to right field from David Castillo making it a 2 â 2 ballgame.
Cougar starting pitcher Mike McGirr was pulled after going five innings for Brigmer Leon who started the sixth. The Hawks would take the lead on an infield single and three consecutive walks making it a 3 â 2 game.
The lead would hold for the Silver Hawks as the Cougars were held hitless over the final four innings splitting the four game series while losing the season series five games to three. Garret Mock got the win to improve to (3 â 2) while Brigmer Leon took the loss to fall to (4 â 4).
The Cougars will return home for the final four games of the regular season in a four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts. Brad Knox will try to become only the second 15 game winner in franchise history in a 6:30 game at Elfstrom Stadium.
