Kane County Cougars News Release

Appleton, WI - The Kane County Cougars led the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers late in game one and scored in the first inning of game two, but neither advantage was enough for a win Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars fell 5-4 in the first part and 7-1 in the back end at Fox Cities Stadium.

In game one, a three-run fifth inning against Rattlers starter Randy Frye gave the Cougars a 4-3 lead. Gregorio Petit tied it with a two-run double, and Luis Perez delivered a sacrifice fly to jolt the visitors ahead. Cougars starter Trent Peterson, who had given up three runs in the first five innings, allowed a game-tying RBI single to Yung Chi Chen in the sixth for a 4-4 score. Tomas Cabaniel worked the seventh in relief of Peterson and gave up an unearned run that provided the game-winner for the Rattlers.

Cabaniel (1-1) took the loss after that final inning, and Eric O'Flaherty (4-2) got the win for Wisconsin after erasing a Cougars jam in the top of the seventh.

Luis Perez began game two with a one-out single, stole second base and came home from Javier Herrera's run-scoring double for a quick 1-0 score in the Cougars' favor. The offense stalled after that point, and Kane County spot-starter Jared Trout struggled in his three innings, giving up six runs on six hits. The Cougars had chances against the Rattlers' Cibney Bello and Justin Jordan, stranding at least one runner in every inning except the final one in a 7-1 loss.

Trout (3-5) suffered the defeat, and Jordan (1-1) got his first professional win. The Cougars (16-17) look to earn the series split Thursday night in the finale with the Rattlers (17-16). Ryan Ford (9-4, 4.33) toes the rubber against left-hander Julio Santiago (2-2, 5.33) for Wisconsin. Then Kane County returns home for a four-game series with the Swing of the Quad Cities that begins Friday night.
