Kane County Cougars News Release

Appleton, WI - The Kane County Cougars belted three home runs Tuesday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, en route to an 8-3 win. Luis Perez, Javier Herrera and Myron Leslie all crushed deep ones, and Joe Scott won for the second time in as many starts to help the Cougars erase a four-game losing streak.

Perez smashed a solo shot off Rattlers starter Aaron Jensen in the first inning for a quick 1-0 lead, and Herrera went deep in the third with Ryan Ruiz and Perez aboard to make it 4-0. Leslie cracked a round-tripper to right to begin the fourth inning for a 5-0 advantage. Scott wiggled out of jams in the early frames before giving up all three of his runs in the fifth inning. He allowed the tallies on four hits, walked five and fanned one.

Mike Mitchell relieved Scott and preserved the lead with three scoreless innings. Ruiz gave the Cougars an insurance run in the seventh against Jon Lockwood. He walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scampered home from another errant delivery for a 6-3 affair. Ruiz walked again in the ninth and came all the way around on a double by Cliff Pennington, who stole third and scored on an error to complete the scoring. After Mitchell left, Kane County lefty Derek Tharpe evaded trouble in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

Scott (2-1) grabbed the victory, and Jensen (6-10) took the loss. The squads will play a doubleheader Wednesday, consisting of two seven-inning match-ups. Game one will start at 11:35 a.m. CDT, as Trent Peterson (1-2, 5.16) takes the mound for the Cougars (16-15) against Randy Frye (2-4, 8.10) for the Rattlers (15-16). The second contest features Jared Trout (3-4, 4.91) versus left-hander Julio Santiago (2-2, 5.33).
