Game winning double finishes two-out comeback

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - With two out in the bottom of the ninth, the Whitecaps trailed Burlington 1-0. But Brooks Colvin and Chris Robinson delivered RBI hits on consecutive pitches for a 2-1 West Michigan victory. It was the second straight Whitecaps win over the Bees, who had won 11 in a row going into Tuesday's game.

Robinson rolled a double past first and down the right field line that drove in Colvin from second with the winning run. Colvin had singled to left to drive in Luis Sabino and tie the game a moment earlier. Burlington grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on three consecutive hits to start the game off Jair Jurrjens. Damaso Espino picked up the RBI to plate Irving Falu.

Jurrjens went on to pitch six innings before Lavon Lewis took over and tossed three shutout innings and picked up the victory. Gabe DeHoyos made a spot start for the Bees and threw five innings with two hits allowed. Yovany Damico followed with two innings of scoreless relief and Adam Rowe went a third of an inning before closer Chad Blackwell finished the eighth and kept the shutout bid alive. But Blackwell also pitched the ninth and took the loss, missing an opportunity for his 11th save. The Whitecaps had the tying run on base in four different innings prior to the ninth, but could not advance a runner beyond second until the eighth.

It was the fifth walk-off win of the season for the West Michigan.

Spot Start: RHP Matt Righter (4-1, 3.28) will start in place of Whitecaps RHP Josh Rainwater in the series finale on Thursday. Rainwater left Saturday's game at Southwest Michigan early due to a blister on his pitching hand. RHP Luis Cota (3-4, 3.49) will be on the hill for Burlington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Eikenhout Incorporated Pre Game Show begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1340 WBBL, the Whitecaps Radio Network and at mlive.com.
