Lansing Lugnuts News Release
CLINTON- Brandon Boggs went 2-5 with three runs batted in and the Clinton LumberKings again took advantage of Lansing miscues as they captured the second straight game in the series between the clubs, winning by a 7-5 score on Tuesday evening at Alliant Energy Field.
Boggs' RBI single in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie and then he collected a two-out, two-run single in the sixth to help the LumberKings(53-49, 15-17) break open a close game in the middle innings for the second straight night.
Lansing(52-49, 15-17) took the early lead off Clinton starter Eric Hurley(10-3), scoring a pair of runs in the second. Charlie Anderson led off with a double and went to third on a bunt single by Ryan Klosterman. After Klosterman stole second with two outs in the inning, a wild pitch by Hurley allowed Anderson to score the game's first run. Josh Lex then followed with a double to score Klosterman from third.
Lansing starter Danny Core(4-6) struck out six hitters in the first three frames, but gave up a two-out walk to Jim Fasano in the fourth. Andrew Wishy followed with a two-run homer to right-center to tie the score at two.
In the fifth, Core walked the bases loaded and then yielded Boggs' RBI single to right. Aaron Tressler took over and was outstanding, striking out Emerson Frostad and Ben Harrison and inducing a groundout off the bat of Fasano to end the threat.
However, in the sixth, Tressler yielded Boggs' two-out single that plated Billy Susdorf and Alberto Martinez. In the seventh, a pair of Lansing errors helped set up Susdorf's two-run double.
Lansing got a single run in the eighth inning on a single by Christian Snavely, a walk to Anthony Sanders, a fielders choice and a passed ball by Martinez. The single by Snavely extended his hitting streak to nine games. Lansing would add a final pair of runs in the ninth off John Lujan, getting RBI's from Jason Armstrong and Snavely, but Lujan got Anthony Sanders to bounce out to the mound to end the game with the tying runs on base.
Lansing, now 4-10 in the state of Iowa in 2005, will make an attempt at winning their first game in the series tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. A.J. Wideman will make the start for the Lugnuts. Clinton will counter with right hander John Bannister.
