South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - In an attempt to win the second half of the Midwest league's eastern division, the South Bend Silver Hawks are going to have to work at getting victories instead of hoping other teams in contention for the second half title lose. Wednesday night, the Hawks helped themselves to two helpings of victories, sweeping their doubleheader with the Beloit Snappers, taking game one in extra innings 3-2 and routing the Snappers in the night cap 10-3.
The comeback began in the fifth for the Hawks after spotting the Snappers a two run lead. Jeremy Pickrel deposited a home run over the right field wall in the first for a 1-0 Snappers lead, while a fielder's choice in the fifth gave Beloit a 2-0 advantage.
In the home half of the fifth, Javier Brito singled to left and Jereme Milons followed with a base hit to left putting runners at first and second. South Bend knotted the game in the sixth inning when Carlos Gonzalez cranked his 14th home run of the campaign over the right field wall.
In the eighth, Alberto Gonzales opened with a single to right. After Carlos Gonzales popped out, Cesar Nicolas doubled to left field scoring Gonzales with the winning run.
In game two, the Silver Hawks broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth. Billy Lockin opened with a double to left field and moved to third on an Emilio Bonifacio sacrifice bunt.
