Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars had a lead and lost it for the fourth time in five games, losing 2-1 to the Lansing Lugnuts Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Javier Herrera returned to the Cougars Friday from Triple-A Sacramento and drove in the home team's lone run.

Cougars starter Mike Rogers pitched six shutout innings and left in line for the win after Herrera's base hit off Lansing's starter A.J. Wideman in the bottom of the sixth scored Ryan Ruiz for a 1-0 game.

The Lugnuts answered in the seventh off reliever J.R. Pickens, making his first appearance with the Cougars after joining them Friday from High-A Stockton. Pickens walked Chip Cannon, induced a fielder's choice and gave up a two-run homer to Corey Patton that became the difference in the 2-1 final.

Pickens (0-1) took the loss, Wideman (4-2) got the win and Mark Sopko reliever Jeremy Harper to get his first save. Game two of the series is Saturday night at 6 CDT. Derek Tharpe (1-2, 5.07) goes for the Cougars (20-27) against right-hander Kyle Yates (2-3, 4.39) for Lansing (25-22).
