Chiefs Defeat First Place Clinton

Clinton, IA– Aaron Sisk homered for the third straight game and Sean Gallagher tossed another gem as the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Western Division leading Clinton LumberKings 6-2 Friday night at Alliant Energy Field. With the win the Chiefs move to 23-25 on the season, 15-10 on the road and five games behind Clinton in the standings.

Leading 1-0, the Chiefs broke the game open against Clinton starter Michael Schlact in the 5th inning. Alan Rick led off with a triple over the head of centerfielder Brandon Boggs. After a walk to Sam Fuld, Eric Patterson collected an RBI for the third straight game with a single to left. Sisk followed with a long homer to left for a 5-0 Peoria lead.

The Chiefs added another run against reliever Kevin Altman in the 7th inning. Patterson doubled to left-center and advanced to third on a single to left by Sisk. Ryan Harvey drove Patterson home with a fielders' choice grounder to second for a 6-0 Peoria lead.

Peoria got on the board against Schlact in the 3rd without the benefit of a basehit. With one out, Sisk reached on a dropped third strike, ruled as a wild pitch. With Sisk running, Schlact committed a balk allowing Sisk to reach second. The Clinton hurler then committed another balk moving Sisk to third base. Harvey brought the games first run with a groundout to shortstop as Sisk scored.

Gallagher moved to 5-1 on the season with six innings of shutout work,. He allowed just three hits while walking two and striking out eight to reclaim the MWL lead. The 19-year old right-hander has not allowed an earned run in seven of his 10 starts this season and he has struck out at least eight in five of those starts. He leads all of Minor League Baseball with a 0.75 ERA.

Tim Layden threw the final three innings for his first professional save. The left-hander allowed three hits and one walk while striking out four. A basehit by Emerson Frostad with two outs in the 9th gave Clinton their first runs of the game but Layden got a groundout from Ben Harrison to end the game.

Pepsi Player of the Game

Aaron Sisk (SS) – Sisk singled in the 1st, reached on a dropped third strike and scored in the 3rd, homered in the 5th and singled in the 7th. His homer was a three run blast to give the Chiefs a 5-0 lead. Sisk finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Notes...The Chiefs are now 9-1 in Gallagher's ten starts this season... Patterson went 3-for-5 to raise his MWL leading average to .400...He has at least two hits in four straight games and is 19-for-46 in his 11 game hit streak...Sisk has homered in three straight games, one shy of the Chiefs franchise record...Sisk has hit safely in all eight games he has played since joining the Chiefs...The Chiefs have won four straight road games...The two teams will play game two of the four game series Saturday night at 6:00 PM...The Chiefs will have RH Jesse Estrada on the hill against RH Ace Walker for Clinton...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
