Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs offense came alive for ten runs Thursday night, scoring in six different innings on their way to a 10-3 blowout of the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays. The victory gave the Chiefs a split with the D-Rays in the four game series.

The Chiefs fell behind early, as starting pitcher Matt Weber gave up two runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Only one of the runs was earned, as the Devil Rays took advantage of a Sam Fuld error in center field to get their second run of the inning on a Craig Markel groundout.

Peoria cut their deficit in half in the 3rd inning at 2-1 when Ryan Harvey lined an RBI single to left field, scoring Eric Patterson. The Chiefs then took the lead for good in the 4th, plating a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Oscar Bernard and Fuld for a 3-2 lead.

The Chiefs blew the game wide open with a four-run 6th inning. Shortstop Josh Arteaga started the inning with a solo home run to left field. Patterson followed four batters later with a sacrifice fly to score Drew Larsen. Sisk and Luis Montanez added run-scoring singles to give the Chiefs an 8-3 lead. More insurance came in the 7th, as Sam Fuld drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Montanez smacked an RBI double to score Sisk in the 8th to set the final score at 10-3.

Weber (3-5) gave up three runs in six innings pitched on his way to his third victory of the season. Alfredo Polanco and Walt Nolen combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief. James Houser took the loss for Southwest Michigan, falling to 2-3 on the year. The bullpen was shaky for the Devil Rays, as three relievers combined to give up six runs in three innings.
