Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Swing of the Quad Cities came out flat for the second straight night as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pounded the Swing, 12-5, on Friday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. With the loss, the Swing (27-20) drop a half-game back of the Timber Rattlers (28-20), who are now tied with first-place Clinton. The Swing have moved into third place for the first time since May 14, but could surge into first place with a win on Saturday.
Quad Cities has lost for the second time in a row for the first time since May 3 and May 4 at Lansing. Between the two losing âstreaks,' the Swing went 15-4.
Wisconsin exploded for an 8-0 lead through their first five offensive innings. They put two runs on the board in the second inning thanks to RBI from Yung Chi Chen and Sebastien Boucher. They added two more in the third inning on RBI doubles from Rob Johnson and Asdrubal Cabrera. Wisconsin then added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning, with Boucher's two-run homer capping the rally.
The Swing tried to respond in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jake Mullinax was hit by a pitch, Simon Williams ripped a single to center, and then Mullinax scored on a wild pitch.
Quad Cities sliced the gap to five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jarrett Hoffpauir singled into center, and then Rick Ankiel drilled a home run to right-center as the Swing got the score to 8-3 in favor of the Rattlers. The long ball was the second in as many days for Ankiel, who has collected eight RBI in just five games since joining the Swing.
But the Swing could get no closer, as Wisconsin scored twice in the seventh, and twice more in the ninth inning against the Swing.
Swing center fielder Simon Williams ended the scoring in the bottom of the ninth inning, when he led off with a solo home run. The home run, Williams' fourth of the season, was his third in his past four games.
Quinton Robertson picked up the loss, allowing seven runs on ten hits in 4.2 innings. Reliever Jeremy Zick allowed one run in 1.1 innings in his Swing debut, while former Quad City River Bandit Jeff Randazzo allowed two runs in two innings in his return to the Quad Cities. Kyle McClellan was touched up for a pair of runs in the top of the ninth.
