
Wizards welcome three former major leaguers

Fort Wayne, IN â The Fort Wayne Wizards already have a game scheduled this summer, on August 22, to play the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) at Comerica Park in Detroit, home of the Detroit Tigers.
Before that happens, the Wizards will have the opportunity to meet former major leaguers Ken Griffey, Sr., Frank Tanana and Andre Dawson at Memorial Stadium in Fort Wayne.
Huntington University and the Wizards will team together to bring in ex-Tiger star Frank Tanana on Sunday, August 14. Tanana will be a guest in the return of the Christian Speaker Series, sponsored by Huntington University. Tanana will provide a post-game testimonial on his hope and the importance of his Christian faith following the Wizards game at 2:00 p.m. against the South Bend Silverhawks. Tanana will also sign autographs after his testimonial.
Tanana was the 13th overall selection in the 1971 draft by the then California Angels. After 21 years, he finished with 240 career wins, a 3.66 earned run average and 2,773 strikeouts. Tanana led the league in 1975 with 269 strikeouts and in 1977 led the league with seven shutouts and a 2.54 ERA.
In conjunction with Baseball Cards, Inc., the Wizards will welcome former Cincinnati Reds star Ken Griffey, Sr. to Memorial Stadium on Thursday, June 23. Baseball Cards, Inc. will also sponsor the appearance of former Chicago Cubs great Andre Dawson to Memorial Stadium on Monday, August 15.
Griffey, Sr. and Dawson will be on hand for autographs, signing any memorabilia for $8.00 per item.
Griffey, Sr., a 19-year veteran who won two World Series titles with the Reds and was a three-time All-Star, finished his career with 2,143 hits, 1,129 runs scored, 152 home runs and 859 runs batted in.
Dawson, a 21-year veteran was the 1977 National League Rookie of the Year and captured the 1987 National League Most Valuable Player Award after leading the league with 353 total bases, 137 RBI and 49 home runs. An eight-time All Star, Dawson closed his career with 2,774 hits, 1,373 runs scored, 438 home runs and 1,591 RBI.
The Wizards will host the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 and will take on the Clinton Lumberkings (Texas Rangers affiliate) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15.
