Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up one big inning but it was enough as the Lake Erie Crushers picked up their first win, 4-2 on Tuesday night at the Corn Crib.

All of the game's scoring took place in the fourth inning. Lake Erie struck first with four runs when Russell Moldenhauer knocked out the first hit off CornBelters starter Daniel Britt with a double to the left-center wall. Adrian Ortiz singled to put runners at the corners, and both scored on a triple by Kellen Kulbacki. Rogelio Noris knocked in another run with a double, and scored the fourth run on a single by Kyle Shaffer.

Normal countered in the bottom of the fourth when Pat Trettel led off with a walk and moved to second on a Jovan Rosa single. Robert Brooks walked to load the bases, and Trettel scored on a sacrifice fly to left. Pat McKenna re-loaded the bases with a bunt single, and Ruben Sierra's sacrifice fly to center scored Rosa to cut the Crushers lead to 4-2 going into the fifth inning.

Trevor Longfellow (1-0) picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter Randy Sturgill. Jonathan Kountis pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his first save. Britt (0-1) went four innings and took the loss.

The CornBelters continue the series on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Corn Crib. Left-hander Tyler Lavigne (1-0, 0.00 ERA) starts for the CornBelters against the Crushers' lefty Paul Fagan (0-1, 5.40). Pre-game on WJBC.com is at 6:20.
