Joliet Slammers News Release
(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers announced the sale of RHP Gaby Hernandez's contract to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Hernandez made one start for the Slammers and did not give up an earned run in five and two thirds innings against the Windy City ThunderBolts on September 17.
"Gaby came into camp as one of the hardest workers," Manager Bart Zeller said. "His work ethic should be an example for the younger members of our staff. Although his time in Joliet was short, everyone learned from Gaby and we wish him the best of luck."
Hernandez becomes the fourth Slammers player signed by affiliated baseball. LHP Aaron Dott, Joliet native RHP Ryan Quigley and Darien native RHP Chris Pack are the other former Slammers currently in MLB organizations.
Joliet's home opener is tonight against the Traverse City Beach Bums at 7:05 p.m. The Slammers will conduct a ring ceremony before the game to honor the 2011 championship team. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the ring ceremony and stay late for a spectacular post-game fireworks show.
The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 20th season in 2012. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com.
