Gateway Grizzlies News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - Shain Stoner drove in Joel Carranza for the game-winning run in the 10th inning and the Washington Wild Things defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 1-0 in extra-innings on Tuesday night at Consol Energy Park.

Gateway (2-2) and Washington (3-1) battled through nine scoreless innings before the Wild Things manufactured the game-winning run in the 10th inning. Carranza was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Michael Bando moved him to second base on a sac bunt. Stoner drove in Carranza with one out to win the game.

Pitching was the story in the game. Jonathan Gonzalez made his professional debut and stifled the Wild Things bats over the course of six innings. He surrendered only two hits while walking two and striking out three.

Casey Barnes matched Gonzalez, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings.

Chris Enourato (0-1) gave up the game-winning hit in the 10th inning to take the loss while Nathan Striz (1-0) needed to pitch only one-third of an inning to get the win.

Gateway collected only three hits in the game. Jerod Yakubik, Antone DeJesus and Case Rigby accounted for the Grizzlies three hits.

The Grizzlies and Wild Things return to action on Wednesday night in Washington, PA. Left-hander Zach Robertson gets the start for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST.
