London Rippers News Release
O ' FALLON, MISSOURI - Bobby Burk hit a walk-off grand slam to lead the River City Rascals to a miracle 9-7 victory.
The Rippers (1-3) led 7-4 going into the bottom of the 9th, with Adam Arnold (0-1) on for the save.
A bases loaded single by Josh Workman brought the game within reach and Burk finished it off with his first hit of the game, a grand slam over the left field fence.
The loss ruined a big night from Joash Brodin and David Christensen, who hit back- to-back homers in the 5th .
Brodin went 2-for-3 with two walks and a 3-run homer and Christensen homered and put up a 3-for-5 day with two RBIs.
London carried a 7-2 lead into the bottom of the 8th, but gave up two runs on back-to- back doubles and a sac fly.
The game winning rally started with one out in the bottom the 9 th. Two singles and a walk scored Charlie Lisk and made it a 7-5 ballgame. Arnold struck out Jareck West before giving up the single to Workman and grand slam to Burk.
Justin Mazur (1-0) started for the Rippers and went 5 innings, giving up two runs, while walking 4 and striking out one batter, while Matt Schimpf came out of the bullpen and pitched 3 innings of relief.
London and River City renew acquaintances tomorrow night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
Gametime is 7:05pm. Yohan Gonzalez will get his first start for the Rippers, countered by Brad Stillings.
