Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Traverse City Beach Bums handed the Slammers their third straight loss in Tuesday night's home opener at Silver Cross Field.

After three scoreless innings, the Bums pounced in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles from Brian Heere and Kyle Colligan at the top of the order for a four-run fourth inning. Joliet's Trey Manz was the team's savior at the plate, driving in RBIs off singles in the fifth and seventh, and the Slammers put the game within one via a Traverse City wild pitch.

The Beach Bums put the game away when Colligan again knocked in two RBI in the eighth, and in the ninth when Sean Gusrang sent a homerun sailing over the right field fence, giving the game its 7-3 final score.

"Captain" Jake Renshaw went three and two-thirds innings in his first start of 2012 and gave up three runs off of only one hit. Jim Schult, Daniel Carela, and Brian Smith took Joliet the rest of the way. Traverse City starter Reid Kelly got the win.

The Slammers continue their homestand in early action Wednesday in a 10:05am start in game two against the Bums in their annual School Day. Fans can catch the action live on AM 1340 WJOL, and streaming live online at www.wjol.com, with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
