Rockford RiverHawks News Release

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Rockford RiverHawks committed a season-high four errors and lost, 5-2, to the Florence Freedom on Tuesday.

Two errors of the errors led directly to runs, one of them the go-ahead run.

In the first inning, Rockford starter Kevin Patterson was in a first-and-third, one-out jam. He caught the trailing runner, Chris Curley, leaving first base early, but Rockford first baseman Evan Button threw the ball into left field. Tucker Nathans scored on the error. Curley then scored on a single by Eddie Rodriguez.

The Freedom broke a 2-2 tie and took the lead for good on a Patterson error in the fifth inning. Patterson hit Junior Arrojo to begin the inning. Arrojo stole second base, went to third on a flyout and scored when Patterson (0-1) mishandled a Curley comebacker.

Florence starter Andres Caceres (1-0) gave up seven hits over seven innings for the win. In the fourth, the RiverHawks opened the inning with three singles to load the bases, but he got Devin Shepherd and Javier Herrera on RBI groundouts and retired Matt Greener on another grounder to strand the possible go-ahead run at third base.

The series continues at 10:05 a.m. CDT Wednesday and will be broadcast live on WNTA-AM (1330).

The RiverHawks' home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday against Lake Erie. The Power Connection sponsors a postgame fireworks extravaganza.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league in its 20th season. Games are broadcast on NTA-FM (100.5) Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
