Bakersfield Condors News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors and the Ontario Reign faced off against each other for the first time in a preseason match-up Friday night, with Ontario coming out on top, 5-4, in a shootout win before 350 fans at Center Ice Arena in Ontario. G Yutaka Fukufuji made the start for the Condors, and stopped 18 of 21 shots.
Condors RW Chad Painchaud, reassigned by the Iowa Chops (AHL) on Oct. 6, wasted little time scoring the game's first goal one minute into the first period. RW Charlie Kronschnabel, also reassigned by Iowa, registered the assist. Bakersfield kept the pressure on with a F Matt Pope tally at 5:48 in the first, extending the lead to 2-0. However, the Reign notched a pair of power-play goals late in the first to tie the game, 2-2, after one.
Painchaud again found the back of the net, striking on a Condors power play 46 seconds into the second period, putting Bakersfield up, 3-2. Midway through the stanza, D Chris Kaufman put the Condors in the lead by two, 4-2, with his first goal of the preseason, assisted by Kronschnabel and D Tom Morrow.
Ontario lit the lamp twice in the third period to tie the game, 4-4, forcing the Condors to play their second consecutive overtime game in as many nights.
Neither team broke the tie in the extra session, and the game proceeded to a shootout. Condors LW Tyrel Lucas scored in the shootout, and Fukufuji stopped three of five shots, but Ontario prevailed, 2-1, and won the game by the final of 5-4.
