
Reign Win In Shootout To Beat Condors 5-4

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign took to the ice for the first time Friday night in a pre-season match up against the Bakersfield Condors. The Reign came out on top, edging out the Condors 5-4 in front of 350 fans at Center Ice Arena, the Reign's official practice facility.
Bakersfield took control of the game early when the Condors scored two goals in the first six minutes of the match up. The Reign came back in full force as D Andrew Martens scored back-to-back goals to tie up the game. Martens took the puck to the net at 16:08 on a power play goal assisted by C Mike Thomson and RW Ryan Bowness. His second goal of the night coming off an assist by D David Walker with two minutes left to finish the period.
The Reign and Condors heated up the second period as players scuffled on the ice on numerous occasions. The Reign played shorthanded a majority of the second period, but were able to match the Condors with 10 shots apiece. The Condors, however, took advantage of the extra man and scored two unanswered goals to end the period.
The Reign lit the lamp with two unanswered goals in the third to tie the game at 4-4 to send the match into overtime. F Tim Kraus scored the third goal for the Reign on an assist from LW Ryan MacGregor and D Chad Starling. Local Duarte resident, Itan Chavira, scored the tying goal with assists going to D Darren McMillan and D Dan Knapp at the 14:40 mark.
After a scoreless overtime period, the teams went head-to-head in a shootout. The Condors scored once but Reign D Andrew Martens and F Itan Chavira put the puck away to win the game with a final score of 5-4.

Opening Night is only 15 days away! The Reign hosts another pre-season game Sunday, Oct. 12 as they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers at 5 p.m. at Center Ice Arena. Center Ice Arena is located at 201 S. Plum Ave. Admission is $10 and is on a first-come first-served basis. Admission is only $8 if you bring a new or used children's book which will be donated to Redlands Sunrise Rotary's Read For Life program which recycles books to children in the community to help promote literacy.
