Cyclones Drop Preseason Finale

KETTERING, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones closed out the preseason on Saturday afternoon with a 7-1 loss to the Dayton Bombers. Ryan Smyth netted a pair of goals and Mike Brown picked up the win in net for Dayton. Barret Ehgoetz netted the lone goal for Cincinnati.

Dayton jumped on the board first, as former Cyclone Matt Rogers flipped a backhanded shot in just 49 seconds into the contest from the right side of the goal crease. Ryan Smyth extended the lead to 2-0 at 3:08. Each team had three power play chances in the opening frame with neither team able to convert. The Bombers outshot Cincinnati, 15-10.

The Bombers would score the first two goals of the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. Smyth recorded his second goal of the afternoon at 8:45 on the power play and then Dan LaPointe also lit the lamp with the man-advantage a bit more than a minute later at 9:49. The Cyclones got on the board before the period ended, when Barret Ehgoetz scored-taking a pass from Sean Perkins in the low slot.

The Bombers scored all three goals of the final period, as Mike McLean, Jamie Dowhayko and Jim Henkemeyer tallied scores.

Mike Brown picked up the win in goal for Dayton, while Loic Lacasse took the defeat. Dayton finishes the preseason 2-0, while the Cyclones end at 0-2.

Training camp has now closed and Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber will have until Wednesday to set his opening night roster. The Cyclones open the 2008-09 season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 in a 7:35pm contest. That game will be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5 FM) with the pregame show airing at 7:15pm.

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
