Florida Doubles Up RoadRunners 4-2

ESTERO, Fla. - Andrew Desjardins scored a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as the Florida Everblades defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners 4-2 before 4,031 at Germain Arena in ECHL pre-season action Saturday.
Following a scoreless first period, the RoadRunners (0-2-0) opened up a 1-0 lead when Desjardins intercepted a clearing attempt by the Everblades (2-0-0), broke in alone on goalie David Shantz, and beat him to the glove side for the tally. Florida quickly countered with a pair of power play goals from Kevin Baker at 7:55 and Jacob Micflikier at 18:18 respectively to take a 2-1 advantage to the locker room after two periods.
Aaron Brocklehurst extended the Everblades lead to 3-1 just 1:29 into the third period on a set-up from Andrew Fournier. Desjardins brought the RoadRunners to within a goal scoring on a backhand shot at 17:15 of the third, but Phoenix would pull no closer. Mark Lee sealed the win scoring a shorthanded goal at 19:12
Phoenix out-shot Florida 34-31. Reto Schurch stopped 27 shots in the loss. The RoadRunners went 0-12 on the power play while Florida was 2-10 with the man-advantage.
Notes: Forwards Kimbi Daniels and Dan DaSilva and defensemen Rory Rawlyk and Tom Sawatske were all healthy scratches...The RoadRunners finished 0-20 on the power play in the two-game series and surrendered two shorthanded goals...Phoenix fell to 3-5-0 all-time in pre-season play.
The RoadRunners open the 2008-09 regular season at 7:05 p.m. Friday as they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series.
