Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 5-2 loss against the Las Vegas Wranglers Saturday night in front of 3,750 fans at Rabobank Arena. One week remains in training camp as the team readies for Opening Night Saturday against the Ontario Reign.

After a tentative start from both clubs, the Condors brought the preseason crowd to their feet by opening the scoring. F Andrew Ianiero buried a one-timer off a feed from C Dave Bonk on a shorthanded rush at 10:28. It was Ianiero's second of the preseason. The opening frame ended 1-0, with G Yutaka Fukufuji stopping 10 shots.

The Wranglers offense broke out in the second frame. They scored four times in the first 8:03 of the period to erase the deficit and take a commanding lead. Vegas scored shorthanded at 1:48, then added a power play goal and a pair of even strength tallies, and outshot Bakersfield 12-10 in the period.

Vegas extended the lead early in the third, with Mick Lawrence scoring 2:20 in. Bakersfield cut the deficit at 6:04, with last season's goal-scoring leader Mark Derlago lighting the lamp. Bonk and rookie D Andrew Thomas picked up the helpers. Bonk's two assists earned him second star honors.

Despite the final score, the crowd was treated to an exhibition shootout, which featured Condors goals by Bonk, Derlago and RW Chad Painchaud, while Fukufuji stopped all five Wranglers attempts.
