March 31, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California- Joel Irving scored two goals and the Bakersfield Condors defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-2, despite being outshot 42-28.
The Condors opened the scoring at the 11:28 mark of the first period when Dave Bonk picked up his 19th of the season, from Joel Irving and Shaun Fisher. Even with 18 shots on net, the Grizzlies were unable to score a goal and Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Irving added a goal for the Condors just over five minutes into the second frame, with the assists going to Scott Balan and Dave Bonk. Utah got on the scoreboard late in the period when Matt Craig found Ryan Kinasewich for his team-leading 35th goal of the year. But Irving struck again with 22 seconds left to give Bakersfield a 3-1 lead after two periods.
In the final frame, Steve Howard notched a power-play tally, his first of the year, at 5:10 to increase the Condors' lead to 4-1. The Grizzlies rallied late when Kinasewich set up Colt King for his 20th goal, but Utah was unable to muster any further offence and the Condors held on for the win.
Utah (34-26-6) and Bakersfield (35-25-6) meet again on Friday, March 31, at 8:00 p.m.
